JOB TITLE: TBD (typically Director of Standards; Strategic Standardization Manager, etc)

REPORTS TO: Corporate Office (usually offices of CTO, Legal, Marketing, Licensing, etc)

GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB: To manage or assist in managing the standards office for development and maintenance of strategies and techniques related to standards activities both external and internal to the company. To increase the influence and recognition of the company in the formal Information Technology community. To improve standards activity management and effectiveness within the company. To serve as an Information Technology standards conduit to industry and trade groups and to the business and standards community at large. Accountable for support of standards activities both directly and indirectly related to the company's business.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Actively participate (via formal officer positions and committee work) in the meetings and activities of the ISO JTC1 TAG, ISO JTC1 Plenary, InterNational Committee for Information Technology Standards (INCITS), American National Standards Institute (ANSI), and the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) in order to educate that community on the capabilities of the company, to give the company credibility and impact and to acquire intelligence of use to the company's business activities

  2. Actively participate in the IEEE-SA Board and IEEE-SA Board subcommittees in order to represent and promote the company's positions and to develop appropriate business contacts

  3. Actively participate in the management committees of other Standards Developing Organizations (SDOs such as TIA, T1, ASTM, etc) relevant to the company's business in order to progress the company's work and represent the company's positions

  4. Create and/or manage the process needed to effectively support the level of standards activity needed by the company and to eventually embody those processes as a formal, high quality standards office. This may include:
    • Providing an external focal point for inquiries into the company with respect to standards activities, paying all membership dues and formally notifying organizations of the employee authorized to represent the company on committees.
    • Formalizing the standards committee memberships and assignments
    • Tracking, coordination and notification of standards participants throughout the company
    • Expense/time tracking on standards committee membership
    • Working with legal and other offices to develop appropriate IPR policies with respect to employee standards participation
    • Creating and maintaining a structured centralized repository for trip reports
    • Performing Internal and external standards training.
